Eileen Thompson

I am a native resident of Western Washington, living in the Silverlake area. Drawing was a passion of mine in my youth. Over the years art has come and gone as I raised my family. In 2005 I started painting watercolors with a group of friends, sometimes taking a few classes here and there. Over the years, I have continued to paint with my friends and have grown in my abilities and enjoy the various faces and places. When I travel, I keep my camera and eye out for various art possibilities and translating them into my art. Retirement has allowed me more time to paint and become active in our local art community.
As President of the Columbia Artist Association (CAA), I have helped keep our association
through our recent difficult times. I hope is to grow the CAA as we continue with our Spring Show, Art in the Park and Fall Shows. Where I enjoy showing my art and find joy in painting that attracts my eye.

I make functional stoneware pottery that has been thrown on a potter’s wheel and carved with designs. It is fired with a blue glaze to cone temperature 6, which makes it safe for the oven, microwave, and dishwasher. I also teach ceramics at Lower Columbia College in Longview.

It has been 39 years since I took my first pottery class, and after all that time, I find I still get the most pleasure from creating pots that people like to use in their everyday life.
