Join us at First Thursday, June 1st to meet the featured artists Gary Bilodeaux, Andy Zahn, and Gallery Student Art Show.

During the June 1, First Thursday from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm, enjoy the music of Keith Hinyard and help us celebrate these artists’ work.

Gary Bilodeaux – Painter

Gary Bilodeaux was born in Boston, Massachusetts. He has been an artist from the age of 8, with Charlie Brown and the Peanuts gang as his first models. His love for art did not wane when his main focus necessarily turned to the support and rearing of his family. Currently, he is working full time as a provider in a local hospital Emergency Room. He has a Bachelor’s degree in science, a Master’s in Education and is a Doctoral candidate in Psychology. Even with all these responsibilities, he continues to pursue art in all of its forms, and has built up a fabulous inventory of original paintings, drawings and sculpture. He has even written “Louis’”, a children’s story complete with his own original illustrations.
Although he has worked in many mediums, he is currently focused on acrylics. He loves portrait painting and always finds a way to add vibrancy to the face. His art truly pops off the canvas. He moves fluidly through various subject matters and continually seeks new ones.
He hopes that you will find great pleasure in gazing into one of his creations. If you listen closely, you can hear the music he is listening to in each created piece. Indeed, if you take the time to ponder them, you will find the one you can’t live without—perhaps it will be a collection, as it was for me.

I’ve spent my life exploring the natural world, and in doing so I have come to realize two things – the immense beauty of nature, and the urgent need to protect it. Nature is ephemeral; no two moments are ever the same, and if I can capture a single moment in time through the lens of my camera, then that moment will never be lost. By sharing these frozen frames of natural history, I hope to spread my own inspiration to protect nature to others.

I credit my formative years in the Pacific Northwest in the shadow of Mt. St. Helens with my perspective. Nothing and no place that I knew as a child remains the same. From my youth,  I recall the beautiful grey desolation of Mt. St. Helens – a landscape nearly devoid of life.  Now it is a verdant countryside of meadows and dappled woodland.  I have also witnessed the irreversible changes wrought by humans: places I once held dear are now clear cut or paved over. I have watched the effects of climate change alter landscapes beyond recognition. It was soon after I received my first digital camera that I saw how much had been lost, how nothing I see today could be the same tomorrow, and no year would be the same as the last.

My love of photography is linked to my love of literature and my own endeavors with the written word. In my early teens,  I found one of outdoor author, Harvey Manning,  old hiking guides while digging through my parent’s garage. I was entranced by his enthusiastic prose, accompanied by Bob and Ira Spring’s photos of Washington’s wild back country. This pairing has stuck with me ever since  in my writing,  the written works of others who serve as inspiration for my photography, and my photography as inspiration for my writing.

I am an artist, an author, a dreamer, and an activist, and I believe all these aspects come together and are reflected in my photography.

Student Art Show

The teachers at the Broadway Gallery are very proud of their students’ accomplishments and growth. This show is a display from various students of all ages using different mediums to express themselves. Susy Halverson, Scott McRae, and Beth Bailey have been teaching classes, workshops and paint parties that help individuals learn new techniques and discover mediums. Classes are available throughout the year during the day, after school, and evenings. You can take a class for an hour, a couple hours, or 3 hours at a time for one time or multiple times. Our new summer schedule will be available soon on the website or at the gallery. Come discover your potential or just come to relax and try something new.
