Debra Chase- Painting and Prints
Art is a joyful, spiritual and in-the-moment process for me. Nature and travel are a huge inspiration for my art. I focus on the language of Art whenever I am engaged in the artistic process. Composition, color and mood are a primary focus.
Most of my paintings are done “Alla Prima en Plein Air”, meaning they were painted completely on site in the landscape. Other paintings are completed from my photography after a road trip.
Most recently I have added the Monotype to my art toolbox. It is a very painterly process and I love the immediacy of the medium, meaning you often get one chance to say what you want to say. These art works are done in the studio so I rely on my photographs or still-life objects in front of me.
I graduated from the University of Washington School of Art, where I feel fortunate to have studied with the late artists Jacob Lawrence (Cubist and African American historical painter), and Michael Dailey (Abstract painter known as a second generation “Norwest Mystic” after Mark Tobey).
Robert Stowe- Carving/Painting
I come from a family that disdains art and
values manual labor. I value art as it is
essential to expressing my emotions and ideals.
Through my art, I struggle to emphasize the
possibilities of maturing one’s thoughts,
exploring new themes, and sharing beauty.
There is nothing special about me. I am an
artist who struggles day after day to create.
Da Vinci said “Where the spirit does not work with the hand, there is no art.”
Whomever wants to know about me should look carefully at my hands at work. While I use a variety of materials and processes, my methodology is consistent. There may not always be material similarities between my projects but they are linked by recurring concerns and through my subjective approaches.
I have no illusions that my art will fuel a revolution, but I have witnessed the powerful changes it can make with an individual. Just one new idea can change a persons’ perception of their reality. Art may not change the world
in an instant, but it may make it’s way into the world where anything can happen.
