Pat Brame

Pat has retired from 38 years in teaching, mostly in Oregon, and mostly pottery after moving to St. Helens, Oregon in 1980. He joined the Oregon Potters’ Association…mainly to access used equipment and materials as he struggled to build the St. Helens High School program. In addition to equipment, the access to other artists, their work and methods helped the program thrive.

In retirement, Brame continues to an active potter with his own home studio, as well as still helping at the high school, and teaching small classes in his home facility two nights a week.

His work is predominately stoneware; dinner-ware pieces are microwaveable and dishwasher-safe. His motifs include some of the flora and fauna found in the northwest…and a few pirate pieces for some of the shows he attends at the coast.

I’m thrilled to be invited to the gallery as a guest artist. I love where we are in the northwest with richness of nature and culture. I find the mix of the two to be wonderful, and I hope that’s reflected in my work. Clay is an art medium that just sort of grabbed me. When you’re starting out, there’s excitement with every small success…frustration with every failure…and joy at feeling yourself improve. After nearly 40 years, I’m still experiencing that joy. Whatever my best will be—I’m not there yet.
