Victoria Cooper- Painter
“There is something so satisfying when I begin a new piece on a rescued window. I never quite know what the final outcome will be when I start to paint. When I trust the process, and believe in my vision, I often end up with something quite unique and beautiful. My favorite part of painting on glass is that it requires my full concentration. Everything else, that may be going on around me and in my life, seems to disappear for a while. Painting challenges me to push myself out of my comfort zone and to think more critically, thoughtfully, and creatively.” – Victoria
Jammie Axon- Sculpture
I live on the Columbia River in Longview, WA. My life-long passion for creating art and appreciating beautifully hand-crafted pieces has played a major role since I was very young. Currently, I concentrate primarily on hand-made ceramic pieces and glass mosaics.
I am inspired by nature, the ocean, foliage and birds, and my work reflects this. I enjoy drawing my own designs for both ceramic pieces and mosaics. Creating various clay shapes, designing a pattern then hand-painting them with underglazes allows me to do specific and detailed patterns. Using special tools to carve into leather-hard clay is called sgraffito and results in a flowing relief pattern on the clay. I enjoy incorporating driftwood from the beach by my home in my art using it as handles for ceramic bowls and plates.
Another passion I have is using colored glass to make mosaics. I draw a design on a wood or glass surface, then choose and cut bright colored glass into small pieces to create the mosaic. Sometimes I use driftwood. Recently, I have enjoyed incorporating my hand-made ceramic tiles into my mosaics. Putting the shapes and colors together is wonderful. I never know how the pieces will look until I get them glued and grouted, and the design unveils itself.
