“Coffee and Tea”

The central idea of my work is to express the Cultural Awareness that I come across in my daily life. I was born and raised in Taiwan. I came here seventeen years ago to study art. Chinese culture is my heritage, but I did not have the cultural awareness until I came here. In other words, I did not know I am a Chinese until I came here. In Taiwan, everyone shares the same cultural background, but here in the States, I was acutely aware of being a Chinese and gradually learned the difference of different cultures and embraced the diversities. “Tzungzhi vs Hamburger” was born to that process and so is this subsequent series “Coffee and Tea.”
In both series, food was the essential theme because it was the most essential part of the Chinese culture. It still is. My daily life blends in more activities now that are geographically and culturally different than the one in Taiwan. I appreciate and embrace the difference every day.
