Libby Taylor
I have been extremely interested in art since the age of three. In 1965, I moved with my family here to the Pacific Northwest where I was and continue to be overwhelmed by the natural beauty that surrounds us.
In my youth, I worked with pencil and oils. I began working with watercolors in 2003 and have studied with several wonderful artists including Natalie St. Martin, Patricia Arnold, Kay Barnes, Deanne Lemley and Tony Van Hasselt.
I have participated in many art fairs including the Puyallup Fair and shown in galleries in Issaquah, Black Diamond, and Tacoma. I would call my style “Idealism” as I like to clearly show my subjects, but, only the good parts and the good feelings they inspire. I enjoy sharing my awe of creation through my art. I hope you can feel the love that is poured into every piece.

I came late to making art and am pouring it on to make up time! After taking various community college courses for 30 years, I decided I wanted a degree, which I completed in 1996 at The Evergreen State College with a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities. During my last quarter at TESC, I took my first art class – printmaking. I have been hooked since then.
My artwork explores the many fascinating processes of printmaking with my current focus being monoprint. My prints include woodcuts, etchings, linocuts, solar plates and rubber blocks as well as monoprints, with each technique producing a different result.
Recently, I have become interested in collage and combining collage with my prints is producing exciting results. In collage, I often utilize parts of monoprints that I have made with color and shapes from magazines. Two or three monoprints can also be cut or torn to create a collage.
Creating art and making abstracts with color and motion bring me much wonder and satisfaction. Often I use several layers of ink and multiple passes through the press to achieve my abstracts.
It is my hope that viewers of my work enjoy a private conversation with what they are seeing.

After working for 50 years with textiles in weaving, sewing, knitting, needlepoint, quilting, braided rugs and embroidery, I have at last discovered my true passion in clay.
In 1995 I traveled to Greece and was captivated by the pottery of the Neolithic era on the island of Crete. The pots, goddess figures and ceramic storage vessels I saw there inspire many of my pieces. Upon my return, I began my study of ceramics and art. I have had the good fortune to learn from many teachers: Richard Roth, Richey Bellinger, Joe Batt, Dennis Meiners, Victoria Shaw, Katy McFadden, and Vivian Varney. In 2010, I was a two-week resident at the Watershed Center for Ceramic Arts in Maine.
In my early years, I lived in the Panhandle of Texas surrounded by acres and acres of grass and wheat land. There were few trees, shrubs, flowers or birds (DDT was in use). For six months of the year, the landscape colors were shades of brown, yellow and gray. Perhaps there is a connection between my life there and my lack of interest in finely finished, highly glazed pottery. The surfaces of my pieces often reflect the colors and
textures of the Panhandle landscape.
