Rosemary Powelson- Ceramics

After decades of drawing and painting with mixed media and paint, I opened a 25-pound bag of clay and returned to abstraction.   Working in three dimensions has been a challenge and the chemistry of glazing has been a mystery well worth my trial and error.  I have not strayed far from my past because when I’m forming clay I’m drawing and when I glaze and fire I’m painting.

Multiple firings give my pieces their weathered, ancient and naturally decayed surface and color.  These are the remnants that remain after a profound change.  The asymmetry and  truncated parts remind us of the tenuous balance of life and nature.

Like the human heart these vessels fit in your hand.  A healthy heart beats with the symmetry of lub dub lub dub but my mud babies pulse with the irregularities of a heart inside a landscape bending, folding and enduring a great fire listening to light and color.

Arlys Clark- Mixed Media Ceremonials

Arlys was born in Seattle, Washington and received her BA from the University of Washington.  She got her Masters in Art at St. Cloud State University in Minnesota. She’s currently creating art in her studio located in Rainier, OR.

Previously, she traveled to various countries which influenced her to add some Mediterranean flare to her work. It helped her transition into a new structures involving various medias blended together. Evoking the Mediterranean, hues are of a warmer season.  Texture is a special interest involving a broken surface.  Shapes are largely stylized and sometimes geometric with some curved lines.
