Lyn Craig- Painting and Ceramics

Lyn Craig

As a ceramicist and painter, I hand-build botanical sculptures and vessels in clay and paint colorful expressionist landscapes and flora in oil. Most recent subject matter is inspired by stunning mountain views and the rolling prairies and old-growth forests near my home studio. I am a self-taught artist. The purchase of rural property a decade ago with an old kiln left in an outbuilding encouraged me to begin working in clay. The process of glazing then inspired me to start painting on canvas. All my works have a botanical theme.

Parts of childhood summers were spent on the forested shores of northern Georgian Bay in Ontario, where close connection with Indigenous people and their rich knowledge of land and water instilled a love of nature. An avid gardener for 50 consecutive years, as a young adult I developed an herb farm in the Midwest and later a small fruit farm in Costa Rica.

Uncommon travel with immersion in other cultures further enriched my passion for the botanical world and how plants sustain us through food, medicine, and spirit.

I am a new member of The Broadway Gallery. I am also a member artist and appointed advisor to the board of directors of ARTrails of SW Washington, and a member of two other galleries. My art reflects my core belief that engagement with plants and trees deepens one’s connections with the splendor and rhythms of the natural world, and with each other.

Leah Van Horn-Haven- Fabric Art

artist wearing a designed hat

Leah Van Horn-Haven

Leah Van Horn-Hazen is a couture fiber artist working under the name JPE Finery. She creates one-of-a-kind wearable art pieces—purses, berets, jackets, and accessories—by blending antique and reclaimed textiles with silk-ribbon embroidery and Crazy-Quilt–inspired techniques. Her work often incorporates vintage men’s neckties, lace doilies, brocade, dupioni silk, and antique purse frames, transforming them into heirloom-quality treasures.
A juried member and board participant of Artrails of Southwest Washington, Leah has exhibited at Broadway Gallery, Whisperwood Custom Framing & Gallery, and other regional venues.

JPE Finery by Leah Van Horn-Hazen brings couture craftsmanship to wearable art. Working with reclaimed silks, vintage lace, men’s neckties, and antique purse frames, Leah builds Crazy-Quilt–inspired pieces rich with silk-ribbon embroidery and hand-stitched detail. Each work evolves organically—she “listens” to what the materials want—so every purse, jacket, and beret holds its own history and story. This October at Broadway Gallery, Leah invites you to look closely: the textures, tiny decisions, and heirloom references are not embellishment for embellishment’s sake, but a conversation between past and present—made to be worn, cherished, and remembered.
