Many cities throughout the country have an outdoor sculputure program. Puyallup and Port Angeles in Washington and Cannon Beach and Lake Oswego in Oregon have developed successful programs.
Following the examples of these cities, the Longview Outdoor Gallery task force has announced a kick-off event scheduled for the Fall of 2011. The idea stems from the successes of other communities that have turned their depressed city centers around.
A call to artist will be sent out soon with the goal of having 15 new sculptures to exhibit on Commerce Avenue in downtown Longview for two years. A “People’s Choice” will be made and purchased for permanent installation in downtown Longview. All new sculptures on display will be for sale, offering an incentive for artists to participate.
Then a new cycle of sculptures would be installed and the process repeated. With each successive rotation the City’s permanent sculpture collection will expand, thus helping the gradual revitalization of downtown Longview.
The project will be funded by donations. Here’ show you can participate!
