Connie Ford exhibits her natural fiber basketry and Noah Homsley presents his strikingly colorful abstracts. Connie’s pieces are functional yet decorative while Noah’s paintings are airy and bright. Enjoy speaking with the artists, visiting with friends, having great refreshments and listening to the music by Curtis Johnson.

I look to the nature that surrounds me to create my art. The garden is full of items that lend themselves to basketry: branches, bark, and leaves. The Great Pacific Northwest contains a wealth of materials: driftwood, seaweed, grasses, cedar, feathers, and scavenged items. The textures, smells, and sight of such an abundance of materials inspire me on a daily basis. Collectively, a piece of art is created that brings the “outside in” of nature to warm a space within a person’s heart and home. For this opportunity, I am grateful.
Basketry is my primary art form, but I also work with felted wool, embroidery, make brooms, weave on rocks, and weave lampshades. I work with many materials from my yard: curly and other willow, wisteria, grape vines, and honeysuckle. From nature, I harvest sweet grass, bear grass, cedar and cherry bark, seaweed, and driftwood. If it can be woven, it just may find its way into my art.
This year, it was an honor to be selected to participate in the 2023 Clark County Open Studios for the third year in a row. Over one hundred people visited my studio last year. It was an exciting and exhilarating experience, and I was grateful to share my love of the arts with others.

I’m a native Oregonian that was born in Gresham at a hospital that no longer exists. I moved to Dunedin, Florida (a suburb of Tampa) in 1982 and back to Portland in 1994 after realizing couch surfing and keg stands were not a recipe for success. Visiting the Salvador Dali museum in high school left an impression that still stands today as a moment in which I fell in love with art. As I explored art more, I discovered my love for artists such as Andy Warhol and Jackson Pollock. I have spent over 20 years in the radio industry as a rock and country disc jockey and sports radio host (Affectionately known as Porkchop or Chop) on radio stations in the Portland area and locally in Longview/Kelso on Cookin’ Country, 105.5 KUKN and The Blitz. On a Christmas Day in 2017, I was given art supplies as a gift and I haven’t looked back since. I try to express my emotions through color and flow in my art.
