Judy VanderMaten – Photographer
I’m originally from the Midwest, but “adopted” the Northwest as my home in 1981, and have resided near the Lower Columbia River since 1987. I currently live in Cathlamet, Washington.
I am an adjunct instructor in photography in the Art Department at Lower Columbia College in Longview, where I have taught since 1995, and have been a member of the Broadway Gallery in Longview since 1991. I studied photography, art, and education at Iowa State University along with getting a B.S. in Child Development. I continued the studies in art and photography later at Southern Illinois University, and Western Oregon State College, and eventually became certified as a K-12 teacher in Art and Special Education. Prior to teaching at LCC, I taught at elementary and middle school levels, worked as a mental health counselor with children, worked as an outdoor instructor, and then as director of an Outdoor Program, as well as a multitude of other short term jobs in between.
I’ve exhibited my photography in juried shows and solo exhibitions in Iowa, Illinois, Oregon and Washington. I’ve always enjoyed combining my love of photography, my love of the outdoors and travel, and my enjoyment in working with people of all ages.
